Registration for Curtain Call 2022 is now open. The performing arts summer program will take place in Lyons from July 6-28.
Mrs. Sue Mack, one of Lyons Elementary School’s longtime Physical Education teachers, will be wrapping up a colorful, bright and busy 35-year career at the district at the end of the school year. During her three-plus decades at Lyons, Mrs. Mack has taught thousands of kids — some now even parents to the children in her more recent classes — and helped foster a love of learning and physical activity in all her students’ lives. She’s also led the district in raising $117,805 for the American Heart Association in the last 20 years.
After learning about the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Lyons Elementary School students felt compelled to help out and wanted to raise money to support Ukrainian humanitarian crisis relief efforts. Mr. Eric Lewis, a 6th grade teacher at Lyons Elementary, headed up the effort and helped assemble a fundraising competition within the district — one that would ultimately lead the district to raising more than $6,600 in about two weeks.
Eleven Lyons Elementary School students participated in the 2022 Inventive Minds Competition, held at Red Creek CSD’s Cuyler Elementary on March 25. To prepare for the competition, the third and fourth graders worked for eight weeks in their Inventive Minds meetings and at home on solving an everyday problem. “They first come up with a problem they want to solve, and then create a solution for it,” Pre-K to 6th grade STEAM teacher and Inventive Minds advisor Brian Askin said. “They've gone through every step of the engineering and design process.”
