Class of 2005
LaTasha Coney played varsity volleyball and varsity basketball all four years of high school at Lyons Central School.
LaTasha was named to the All-County Team in volleyball all four years, 3rd team as a freshman, 2nd Team as a sophomore and 1st team both her junior and senior years. In her freshman year. the team went 14-2 losing in the Section V Class DDD finals. In her sophomore year, the team went 15-3, won the Wayne County league title for the first time since 1984 and again played in the sectional finals. Her junior year, the team was again league champions, but lost in sectional going 15-5. During LaTasha’s senior year everything came together. The team had a league record of 14-0 with an overall record of 20-2. They defeated Clyde-Savannah three times, the last time to win the Section V Volleyball title for the first time in school history. Tasha was named Player of the Year and Sectional MVP. She led the team in kills and aces.
LaTasha was even better in basketball where she played point guard. Her freshman year the team had a perfect 16-0 record in Wayne County. During her sophomore year, the team had an overall all record of 21-2. They won the league title and made it to the finals in sectionals. Tasha was a Class C All Star Tournament selection. During her senior year, LaTasha averaged 20 points, 6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.5 steals per game. She led the Lady Lions to a Section V Title and a spot in the NYS Final Four. She was named Class CC Sectional MVP. Tasha was named twice to the Finger Lakes Fab 5, was Player of the Year in 2004-2005 and All-Greater Rochester First Team in 2004-2005.
After high school, LaTasha went to William Smith and played basketball all four years. Tasha contributed in all areas of the game, points, assists, steals and rebounds. She was name Liberty League Guard of the Week, RACA female Athlete of the Week, ECAC Upstate Player of the Week and D3hoops.com National Team of the Week.
