• 1996-1997 Lyons Girls’ Basketball Team

     

    What an exciting year it was for the Girls’ Basketball in Lyons.  The team won the first ever sectional game, beating Cal-Mum 52-48 to claim the Section V Class CC title.  The game came down to the wire with eighth grade Janitha Knight and senior Amy Maslyn sinking free throws to seal the victory.

     

    The girls’ record for the year was 16-2 league and 16-4 overall and they gained the #1 seed for the sectionals with 82 total points and a 4.10 seeding point average.

     

    It was a season of close games, winning two games in overtime the same week, defeating larger schools Pal-Mac and North Rose-Wolcott.

     

    Receiving honors for the team was Breynn Trombino who was voted first team all Wayne County, MVP of the CC tournament, nominated to the Finger Lakes Times Fab Five and an opportunity to play in the Ronald McDonald Exceptional Seniors game in Rochester.  Junior, Staci Bartishevich was named a member of Section V CC All-Tournament team.  Seniors Kara Barclay and Amy Maslyn were nominated to play in the Wayne County Exceptional Seniors game.  Eight grader, Janitha Knight, was named all Wayne County Honorable Mention.

     

    Coach Jim Miller received Honorable Mention for the Finger Lakes Times Coach of the Year and had the honor of coaching the Ronald McDonald Exceptional Seniors game.

     

    Coach Miller and Assistant Coach/JV Coach, Paul DiSanto were especially proud of all the members of this team and their accomplishments that season.
