Students learned about Staff Sergeant John Pagliuso, a 1937 Lyons graduate and World War II veteran who was missing in action until this past March. To honor his service and that of all who have served, students created heartfelt cards and posters for local veterans at the American Legion and for veterans close to them. Elementary students also waved American flags and stood outside as the motorcade went by to honor SSgt Pagliuso’s return home, while Leadership students attended the ceremony to pay their respects. Through these experiences, students learned the importance of Veterans Day and the meaning of honoring those who have sacrificed for our country.

Students in Miss Faucher’s class recently put their communication skills to the test during a debate on school start times. After researching, organizing arguments, and practicing public speaking, they engaged in thoughtful and respectful discussions, showcasing their ability to listen, reason, and express their ideas with confidence. Their preparation and professionalism made for an impressive and lively debate.

Former students of Mr. Cole were all smiles as they greeted him in the hallway, sharing hugs and laughter. It was a special moment that showed just how lasting the connections between Lyons' teachers and their students can be.

Students in Ms. Young’s class are diving into the integumentary system, which includes the skin. As part of their learning, they visited the New York State Troopers barracks to explore how fingerprints are used in identification. Students will now use their own fingerprints to complete a project on how and why everyone’s prints are unique, a hands-on way to connect science to the real world. A big thank-you to Trooper VanCamp, Sergeant Kevin Sholly, and the rest of the New York State Troopers for welcoming our students and sharing their expertise.

Students in Ms. Beckwith’s 8th-period Algebra 1 class have been hard at work preparing for their upcoming Unit 3 test on Functions. They reviewed key concepts and completed practice questions to strengthen their understanding and build confidence ahead of the assessment.

In honor of Staff Sergeant John Pagliuso, we’re flashing back to his 1937 senior photo. A proud Lyons graduate and World War II veteran, his legacy of courage and service continues to inspire our community.
