Elementary students lined the hallways with handmade signs, loud cheers, and high fives as they celebrated their classmates heading to the Special Olympics! In a heartwarming send-off parade, the athletes walked through the school while staff and students showed their support with smiles, encouragement, and school spirit. It was a powerful moment of pride, inclusion, and community!
Our students proudly represented Lyons at the Special Olympics this week! With determination, joy, and school spirit, they gave their best in every event. From races to relays, their hard work and positive energy shined bright. We are so proud of their accomplishments and the way they supported one another throughout the day—true Lyons Pride in action!
Students in the L.Y.O.N.S. Afterschool Program had a great time during their weekly karate session with Isiah Jackson from The Space! Each Wednesday, Mr. Jackson leads an hour-long class, sometimes with younger students and other times with the older group. Alongside teaching karate techniques, he emphasizes respect, self-discipline, and the importance of using these moves only for self-defense—not aggression. He also mixes in fun, familiar games to keep the energy high and the lessons engaging!
The Lyons National Honor Society raised $408.19 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research! Students donated throughout the week by placing money in cans featuring staff who volunteered to be slimed. Mr. Young’s can raised the most—earning him a sliming at the pep rally and the honor of choosing the charity.
Second graders celebrated their hard work with a special lunch in the small gym! Students enjoyed eating with friends from other classes, laughing, dancing, and finishing it all off with popsicles. A fun and well-deserved reward!
Mrs. Zulauf’s 3rd grade students were hard at work during reading groups! Students practiced fluency, explored new vocabulary, and engaged in thoughtful discussions as they built their reading skills together.
Lyons students had a great night at the Elenbe Awards Ceremony at Newark High School, performing alongside schools from across the county and bringing home nine awards!
