Ms. B

prof.picAfter 27 years in education26 of them were at Lyons Elementary, Ms. Colleen Boardman is retiring, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, heart, and impact.

Teaching was in her blood, with both parents in the profession. Although she first pursued travel and tourism, she quickly realized her true calling and went on to earn degrees in psychology and education. Her journey at Lyons began with a memorable interview that led to a job offer the very next day. She’s since taught 4th and 5th grades and most recently served as a math interventionist, a role she loved for the connections it allowed her to build with students across grade levels.

tennisOutside the classroom, Ms. Boardman coached girls' tennis for 25 years, leading teams to winning individual sectional titles at doubles and the team making it to the finals—a first in Lyons' history. She also coached track, cheerleading, boys tennis, and softball, and was honored as Coach of the Year for  Girls Tennis. But what meant most to her were the relationships she built with students and families, often teaching siblings and staying connected long after graduation.

“The family atmosphere at Lyons is what kept me here,” she shared. “Having come from a large school, I loved working at Lyons because it allowed me to build relationships and connect with students in a smaller setting. Something I wouldn't have been able to do in a bigger school.”

Ms. B and studentIn retirement, Colleen looks forward to traveling with her husband, playing golf with her mom, attending the College Softball World Series, and spending time with her grandchildren.

To her students, she says, “Always believe in yourself. If someone pushes you, it’s because they know you can do it.”

Thank you, Ms. Boardman, for your years of service and heart. You’ve made a lasting difference in Lyons and will always be part of our school family.
