Ms. Sloan’s 3rd graders jumped into hands-on math centers with support from Mrs. Galbraith as they practiced multiplying single-digit numbers by multiples of ten. Students worked collaboratively, built confidence with place value, and strengthened their multiplication skills through engaging, structured activities.

The Lyons Leadership Class received the Champions of Change Award from the New York State School Boards Association at November’s Board of Education meeting. Students were surprised as NYSSBA recognized their commitment to civic leadership and service at this month's Board of Education meeting.

Students worked with Ms. McCormick in a small-group session to sharpen their multiplication facts through a fun matching game. They supported one another, talked through their thinking, and enjoyed learning together in a positive, encouraging environment.

Students in Mr. Carr’s class brought civics to life with a hands-on simulation of the Electoral College. In head-to-head dice matchups, each winning roll secured an entire state’s electoral votes, mirroring the winner-take-all system used in most of the country. After completing all 50 states, the groups compared their results. They saw firsthand how different electoral outcomes can emerge, including how a candidate can win the Electoral College without winning the popular vote.

Families came together for an exciting elementary school Family Literacy Night, hosted by the Literacy Volunteers of Wayne & Seneca Counties and the Lyons PTA. The themed LEGO Story Hour was a free event open to all families, offering hands-on building activities, snacks, and stories read by Mr. Poole and Mr. Nesbitt. Every student left with a new book to take home and a LEGO creation, making it a night that celebrated creativity, reading, and community.

Ella Prizel opened this week’s Board of Education meeting with a beautiful performance of the Star-Spangled Banner on her trumpet. Her talent and poise made for a great start to the evening.
