The excitement was contagious as our Special Olympics athletes made their way through the elementary school during a celebratory parade before the big event. With music playing throughout the building, students lined the hallways holding handmade posters, cheering, and offering high-fives as the athletes passed by. The energy was incredible, and the support from their peers made for a truly memorable sendoff.

Stay tuned for photos from the Special Olympics event!

Students in Ms. Frier’s 9th-grade English class recently explored the short story The Paper Menagerie by Ken Liu. As they read, students analyzed symbolism throughout the text and identified the “Big Idea” of each section to deepen their understanding of the story’s themes and message.

Students in Mrs. Bernhardt’s class spent time participating in reading stations while also creating posters for the Special Olympics Parade. Using their handprints, students designed colorful signs to cheer on the athletes, incorporating the colors of the Special Olympics rings and learning about the meaning behind each one. Their creativity and encouragement helped make the parade even more special for the athletes.

Members of the Lyons Board of Education recently visited our schools, connected with students, and saw learning in action. These visits provide an opportunity to engage with students, hear their perspectives, and experience firsthand the great things happening throughout our district.
