On Thursday, October 19th, Lyons HS 10th-12th graders traveled to the Monroe County Fleet Center for the 25th Annual Rochester Careers in Construction Day! Students operated heavy equipment, spoke with Union reps regarding apprenticeship pathways, spoke with employers, and interacted with post-secondary department members in the fields of construction. The events were interactive, hands on, and provided a snapshot of training and job duties in fields such as brick laying, iron working, carpentry, soldering, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and much much more.

Last week, Midland Asphalt paid a visit to LES to present to our third graders. They learned about the asphalt industry, PPE (personal protective equipment), how to stay safe on the job, Halloween trick-or-treating safety tips, as well as seeing samples of asphalt binders and hot mix asphalt samples. They were also able to see the asphalt distributor truck and how that operates!

Our Varsity Volleyball team completed a 19-0 season and is seeded #2 in the Class C2 Sectional Tournament. Our team will compete on Friday, October 27th at 5:30 pm at the Lyons Community Center. Our Lyons/Sodus Football team has qualified for the Class C Federation Sectional Tournament as the #5 seed. Lyons/Sodus will travel to East Rochester to face the #4 seed East Rochester/Gananda Bombers on Friday, October 27th at 7pm. Admission for this event is $7.30 and can only be purchased digitally. Congratulations to our October 13th Proud Paws Calls: Misael, Riley, and Cohen! Misael was nominated for being “ALWAYS Respectful, Helpful, and Positive,” and going “above and beyond” when the class had a substitute teacher.
Riley was nominated for “consistently showing that she is a natural leader. She is extremely responsible and often reminds me of things that I may have forgotten.”
Finally, Cohen earned his nomination for being “respectful to adults and peers in the room," as well as "demonstrating leadership skills.”
All three students called home with the good news last week. Congrats!

A big week for Lyons athletics is taking place.
Wednesday (tonight) our Lyons/Newark soccer team takes on Geneva in a pre quarterfinal class A sectional game. The game starts at 6pm. Admission is $7.30 via the GoFan app. No cash admissions will take place.
Thursday: our Lyons/Sodus football team hosts Letchworth/Warsaw/Perry at 6pm. The winner will earn a home game in the class C sectional tournament. Senior night for football and our cheerleading team will take place at 5:30. Admission is Free!
Friday: our girls volleyball team takes on Gananda. This is the game of the regular season for our undefeated volleyball team. JV starts at 4:30 with Varsity starting at 6pm. Admission is free and senior night starts around 5:30pm.
Saturday: The Lyons Community Center will host the Wayne-Finger Lakes Gameday Cheerleading championship. Admission is $5 and the competition starts at 10am. Cash only!
